1920'S FLAPPER GIRL

Now this was fashion/culture back in the 1920's called " Flapper".   Flapper girls were the rebels from back in the day and started a  trend here in america where girls started wearing excessive make-up, wore shorter dresses , drank, smoke, and pretty much started making a fashion statement in a time where women were seen as conservative and inferior to men of that time.

The famous cartoon pop icon Betty Boop was created in the 30's inspired by the " Flapper Era" and I couldn't help but do my hair inspired by this era , where women stood up and finally created a fashionable image for themselves!

I had lots of fun during this little photo shoot I did at home. The hair and make-up was done by me and the pictures were taken by my fiance Charlie a.k.a Epok. We did some editing with special filters to create that warm vintage look.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

MY BABY SHOT ME DOWN

Heres a song that I fell in love with thanks to listening to Pandora the other day . Its a Dance/House track by a UK crew called  Audio Bullys released back in 2005.  This track contains a sample of the vocals of Nancy Sinatra ( Daughter of the Great Frank Sinatra ) from her song " Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down)". I love her vintage sound mixed with that funky Dance/House vibe! I provided the youtube link above( click on the title of the track above ) which contains the video to the song as well, so check it out. Peace, Love, Listen, Dance~~~~

Check out this Ombre ;)

Ombre seems to be the talk in hair fashion more than ever, so I couldnt help but post this and give a little insight to this trend. So first and foremost, before Ombre there was Balayge. Balayge started out in France back in the 70's and became extremely popular here in the US by the late 90's.

Ombre is very similar to Balayage, but with different hair sectioning before the highlights are applied. Balayage is a hair coloring technique which is designed to create very natural-looking highlights which grow out without having the regrowth too noticeable.

Like Balayage, Ombre is the "new" trend on the block. The term Ombre is also a French word that translates as "graduated." It refers to the grown out look of highlights that have a darker root and then "graduate" blending into much lighter ends. Except for now, the reverse of lighter roots to darker ends has emerged trendy.

Heres a look a some Balayage hair styles:

As you can see from these hair syles they're grown out natural-looking highlights, with a natural base.

Ombre hairstyles :

From these hairstyles you can see the darker roots slowly graduate into the lightened "dipped" ends.

After searching through examples these I feel are the DONTS of Ombre :

Sorry Ciara it looks like your roots are screaming HELP

If you're gonna try to pull off the "Ombre" look, just dont be lazy. Looks like she was the stylist's guinnea pig.

MY COLOR&TEXTURE THROUGH THE YEARS

As a stylist we dread those burnt hair days. Through the years I have gone through different tones from dark to light, including textures from curly to straight. Be advised that applying color chemicals, lighteners and constant iron straightening can damage your hair with time. Its important that at home or with your personal stylist apply treatment to your hair once a week. Many stylist that I've encountered through the years fail to advise their clients of the usage and advantages of hair treatments. So please ask your stylist to recommend you the treatment thats best for your type of hair.
With experience I have learned and ended up with dry/brittle hair.

Damaged hair is not a pretty sight!

I was digging through my pics and decided to post up the various tones and styles I've had through the years.
Those of you who are afraid or hessitant to change your hair color, whether its from dark to light ( or vice versa), its always fun to apply simple streaks from highlights to lowlights. Those "simple streaks" can give you that edgy look without having to dye your whole hair.
So ladies, if you're going through a break up or any hard times in your life, its rewarding to give yourself a new look and look in the mirror to that brand new you!
